This is a lesson I constantly am learning (and need to keep reminding myself of). I'm a people-pleaser through and through AND the person I can benefit from listening to the most is myself. I wrote "I should" first and then I realize I keep shoulding all over myself lol.

As your unofficial writing coach, I’d love to read 400 words on: “I'm a people-pleaser through and through AND the person I can benefit from listening to the most is myself.”

Now that I have a husband, I have to set boundaries with my cat (for real.) Thanks for another thoughtful post. I related to this so much when I was in my 30's and early 40's. One of the benefits of aging is an extra pinch of curmudgeon, which helps with boundaries.

Where I struggle is differentiating between “people pleasing” and making a relationship deposit before trying to make a withdrawal.

I find it difficult to network or be part of a friendship if I’m not holding up my end of the bargain. Every year i’m reminded that the net effect of this behavior is I put more in than I take out.

How, other than looking in retrospect, do you set firm boundaries when this seems gray to me?
